C.J. Wilson meets team manager Mike Scioscia – MLB News
Los Angeles Angels’ management is finally taking some tough measures to review the 2012 Major League Baseball season.
Meeting with starting pitcher C.J. Wilson in a closed door long conversation, Angels' manager Mike Scioscia clearly showed other players that the top management is looking thoroughly over every player’s contribution.
"It was just a strategy meeting of trying to get his best stuff back out there on the field, We have a lot of confidence in what he can do. We want to refine some simple things, without going into details," Scioscia said with confidence as he explained in the media about the meeting.
However, Wilson was the first one who was given some special suggestions along with some vital pitching tips by the manager.
Scioscia, who understands the importance of former Texas Rangers’ ace pitcher as he reportedly was given a hefty five-year deal worth $77.5 million and wants him to play like a champion.
Nevertheless, the price tag is huge but the level of performance Wilson has been showing since coming into 2012 season is quite tepid.
With his 3.82 ERA and 12-10 win-loss, 161 strike-outs and 1.33 WHIP, Wilson is sitting far below his usual mid-season performance.
Regarding, Wilson’s performance, some experts believe that the Angels did not utilise him well. They did not give him many games to start which is the main cause why his pitching could not pick the right momentum at the right time.
Apart from Wilson’s poor late performances, news is also coming that the Angels are shuffling the rotation for the next particular series.
Wilson’s potential replacement Jerome Williams has already impressed the Angels’ management.
"Jerome's role is an important role also, especially when you're down to these last dozen games, At times you're going to match up earlier in a game and at times you're going to have not as long a leash with some guys. Jerome stepped in and pitched great baseball," Scioscia said.
Meanwhile, Wilson who is getting criticism from many sides must rethink over his slight defensive strategy and come up with more offensive game plan which will certainly help him gain the lost confidence.
