C. J. Wilson reflects on the Texas Rangers late win over the Oakland Athletics 3-2
C. J. Wilson took the opportunity to talk to the press on Wednesday, September 21 at Oakland Coliseum as the Texas Rangers beat the Oakland Athletics 3-2.
The starting pitcher had a few words to share about his role and the way things turned out in the game.
Looking for his 17th win of the season, Wilson pitched six innings in the match, allowing just two runs off five hits. He went up against his former team-mate, Brandon McCarthy. The Oakland pitcher had a better night than Wilson, as he pitched
seven decent innings and allowed just one run from six hits.
Wilson’s role however was short lived as his fifth inning display converted two runs for the A’s. Cliff Pennington scored the first run for Oakland off Brandon Allen’s single to left-field. Allen then converted the second run from a throwing error by Josh
Hamilton. The situation proved costly for Wilson as he ended his role in the game with Coco Crisp grounding out on his pitch.
"After the first I was battling my control the whole game," Wilson said. "I threw some close pitches and those guys were too disciplined, they're not going to swing. I wish I wasn't throwing as many pitches as I did in six innings. Too many full counts."
The starter had little to worry about later on as Ian Kinsler went into the eighth to hit a home-run against Grant Balfour. With the scores even, Hamilton smashed a tremendous game winning home-run for the club as he brought the side to a 3-2 score line.
Wilson was surprised to his team’s comeback in that fashion.
"It was just awesome to see us come back like that," pitcher C.J. Wilson said. "We haven't been coming back like that lately."
Wilson is currently 16-7 and he is expected to play one more game before the season closes out. With an earned runs average of 2.97, he is already expected to be on top of the pitching rotation in the playoffs.
