C.J. Wilson shines as Texas Rangers brush aside Cleveland Indians, 2-0 – MLB Update
Texas Rangers’ starter, C.J. Wilson had a remarkable day as he threw superbly with an ERA of 3.03 and struck-out seven batters in the Rangers’ 2-0 victory over the Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field, Cleveland on June 5.
The score-card was empty during the first inning as the batters were unable to hit scoring shots and got out at different field positions. Michael Young flew out to right-field and Adrian Beltre grounded out to third base at the top of the first inning.
On the other side, the Indians’ batters also failed to score any run as Asdrubal Cabrera was grounded out to short-stop and Michael Brantley got out at second base.
The Rangers scored their first run in the second inning and led off 1-0 when Mitch Moreland struck a solo homer (419 feet) to centre-field. In the third inning, Elvis Andrus gave the Rangers a 2-0 lead by hitting a one-run homer (347 feet) towards left-field.
The rest of the six innings were score-less as the pitchers outclassed the batters due to their impressive throws.
Andrus said, “I thought of that right away. I told Josh, 'Watch out, I'm with you.'”
In the ninth inning, the Indians missed scoring opportunities when Cabrera was struck-out swinging and Carlos Santana grounded out to first base. The pitchers were on top right through the game.
The Indians’ Manager, Manny Acta was frustrated with the loss and said, “These guys came in and outplayed us. They have a very good team and showed us why they're the American League champs. The title is probably going to have to run through Texas again.”
Wilson gave no run on three hits but allowed just two walks on his 104 pitches. During the press conference, Wilson said, “We sit around and talk pitching every day. We bounce ideas off each other. Today, I used all my weapons -- a back-door cutter, fastballs
up and in, changed speed on breaking stuff.”
The Indians’ starter, Mitch Talbot was little bit shaky with the ball as he pitched six innings with an ERA of 4.18 and allowed two runs on eight hits including two earned runs. He was able to strike-out four batters and permitted three walks on 105 pitches.
