C. J. Wilson shrugs off talk of Free Agent status, focuses on American League Championship Series
The Texas Rangers face a daunting task on prevailing in the American League Championship Series against the Detroit Tigers. The two teams are scheduled to meet on October 8 for Game 1 at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. The Tigers will put Justin Verlander
in for the bout while the Rangers will put C. J. Wilson to start.
Wilson got the chance to talk to the press on Friday, October 7 and he shrugged off talks of entering the free agent market in the off-season. The player is said to be the second most valuable pitcher in the market after C. C. Sabathia of the New York Yankees.
If Sabathia negotiates a contract before the start of the off-season period, Wilson will be valued as the most wanted pitcher in the market. However the player is not looking at that picture at the moment. He is focusing for the first game and his aim is
to help his team. On his free agent status, he had a few words to say.
"I don't really care," Wilson said. "I don't really care what people talk about as far as my value is or what the number eventually turns out to be or whatever. The most important thing for me is ending this year hoisting a trophy. We put up one trophy last
year with the American League.
The player went on to state that he and his team-mates want to go for two trophies this year; one being the American League title and the other being the World Series accolade. He affirmed that this is nothing other than fulfilling a childhood fantasy. Wilson
emphasised that there is no telling how many chances one player gets on being part of an exceptionally good team. The squad has been lucky to go through, two years in a row.
Wilson will be looking to put in a good performance against the powerful Tigers as Verlander is currently flying high with confidence. The Tigers are surging thanks to their amazing series in which they eliminated the Yankees. It will be interesting to see
which of these two tremendous pitchers will come out on top in Game 1 of the American League Championship Series.
