C. J. Wilson speaks up after crashing out against the Seattle Mariners – MLB Update
C. J. Wilson took the opportunity to talk to the reporters on Friday, September 16 after he crashed as the Texas Rangers lost 0-4 to the Seattle Mariners at Safeco Field in Seattle.
The star hurler represented the Rangers, who were looking to widen the gap in the American League West between the Los Angeles Angels and themselves. Wilson was unable to pick up the win though, as the Mariners took the game away.
Wilson was hit for four runs in the bout and they all came within the first seven innings of the game. After picking up scoreless innings of pitching in the last two appearances, Wilson fumbled in front of the Seattle hitters. He allowed six hits and two
balls. Casper Wells picked up a special home-run in the seventh inning. There was however one silver lining for the Texan ball thrower, as he managed to pick up eight strike-outs.
The club however lost the chance to widen their gap on the top beyond three wins.
"Where do you want to start?" Wilson said. " ... It was like the Titanic. It just got to the point where there was nothing you could do."
The hurler however was optimistic and confident on going ahead. The one thing to happen on Friday was that the number of fixtures decreased.
"You have to take the positive out of it," Wilson said. "We didn't gain ground, but we didn't lose ground. We're still in the driver's seat. We just need to win as many games as we can. We don't have to rely on other teams."
One decision made all the difference for Wilson in the bottom of the third. The hurler had struck out Trayvon Robinson for the first out. He had gotten Wells to 3-2 on the count. His last ball seemed to him like a strike but the ruling from the umpire declared
it a ball. Wells walked to first base and became the first scorer in the game later on.
"In that situation, I made a good pitch -- a swing-and-miss slider that I thought he swung at," Wilson said.
Wilson is currently on 16-7 and there is still a chance to get to 18 to 19 wins this season. However that requires that they do not lose another game in the remaining weeks of the regular season.
