C. J. Wilson talks about Justin Verlander as American League Championship Series fast approaches
The Texas Rangers are getting ready to face the Detroit Tigers at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. The two teams will collide in Game 1 of the American League Championship Series and they will be bringing in their top pitcher to face the opposition’s own,
supreme pitcher.
C. J. Wilson took the opportunity to talk of Justin Verlander in his press address on Friday, October 7 from Arlington.
Wilson will be the Rangers’ first pitcher for the series and he will have a hard time matching up to regular season 24-game winner, Justin Verlander. The Tigers’ ace is the ultimate prized possession in the squad this year and he will do his utmost best
to steer the Tigers to the World Series.
Unlike Wilson, who went 0-1 in the Division Series against the Tampa Bay Rays, conceding eight runs, Verlander has a better standing in the playoffs. The star went to pitch an inning against the New York Yankees in the club’s 3-9 loss. He conceded just one
run in the game.
The pitcher then returned in Game 3 of the Division Series against the Yankees to pitch eight innings. He gave away four runs off six hits but he picked up the winner as the club went 5-4 in the scoring contest. Wilson had to lay praise on his rival as he
prepares to do his part in the coming encounter.
Wilson said, "He's got obviously phenomenal stuff. No one is going to dispute how good he is, how good of a season he had. But at the same time, we beat him earlier this year. So I feel like we have a team that can hit anybody. My confidence is in our hitters,
not so much anything else. He has to pitch against them. He's got to face the chef, Mike Napoli. He has to face [Adrian] Beltre, Mike Young, [Ian] Kinsler, all those guys."
Unlike Wilson, Verlander has a better chance to win the game. Compared to his 24-5 record in the 2011 season, Wilson has a 16-7 standing. It will be an interesting match-up as both pitchers will be looking to put in a brilliant performance and lead their
team to a decisive Game 1 victory in the ALCS.
