C. J. Wilson talks about moving to Los Angeles Angels – MLB News
C. J. Wilson, who signed a deal with the Los Angeles Angels on Friday, December 9, has called his family in the smooth transition from the Texas Rangers to the Los Angeles Angels.
Having been a free-agent pitcher for a while now, the Winter Meetings were of huge importance where the fate of the player was to be decided. While the Rangers did intend to re-sign the player, the balance eventually favoured the Angels.
With his presence around, the Rangers had made it twice into the World Series consecutively. As a starter, he was incidentally in his second year with the Rangers.
He had won no less than 16 wins this year, bearing seven losses with a 1.19 WHIP and 2.94 ERA. Wilson played 34 games and hurled just over 223 innings on the whole. That put him in a comfortable position to get a good offer from any team.
To be wooed eventually by the Angels, he has signed an $75 million extension waiver deal spanning five-years.
He took the moment on Friday to give credit to his family for the support they have shown all this while.
"At the end of the day, my family was a big player in this, and my friends and stuff back home," Wilson said. "Going back to where you're from is a difficult thing to turn down when you have an opportunity, and it works out really in every way."
With Wilson moving to the Los Angeles Angels, the Rangers feel the division has become stronger now.
"The division just got significantly better," Rangers’ assistant GM Thad Levine said. "A team we have tremendous respect for and has been our main competition just got better. The challenge in the American League West just got bigger.”
While the challenge has indeed gotten better, it is to be seen how the Rangers confront the teams which are ever more capable and resourceful now than ever before. Wilson’s move to the Angels is one such instance that the Rangers will have to be careful
about and the Angels will be proud.
