C.J. Wilson’s nine inning pitches prevails Texas Rangers over Seattle Mariners, 5-2: MLB Update
Texas Rangers’ starter C.J. Wilson pitched dominantly throughout the game and struck out 12 batters in the Rangers’ 5-2 victory against the Seattle Mariners at the Safeco Field in Seattle on Wednesday night, May 4.
Wilson said of his game, “For me it's more surgical. That's the way I try to pitch. That's the way I always try to pitch.”
The Rangers started the first inning pretty well as they posted two runs. Adrian Beltre drove a shot with two-outs for RBI double towards the right-field position and Elvis Andrus reached the third base in no time to complete a single run. David Murphy went
1-for-4 and scored another run to take the Rangers' lead to 2-0. But the Mariners’ third baseman, Chone Figgins, took a single in the first inning to reduce the trail by 2-1.
There was no score in the second inning from both sides. The third inning also remained scoreless for the Rangers, but Figgins added a one-out single for the Mariners and tied the game at 2-2 in the end of third inning. After the third, the rest of the innings
were scoreless for the Mariners. Justin Smoak and Jack Cust, who shined in the last game, were unable to add a single run for their club.
Mitch Moreland had a good season so far as he struck a one-run homer in the fifth inning to take a 3-2 lead for the Rangers. It was considered as his fourth homer of the season. He was excited on this convincing win as he said, “Especially in a game like
tonight when runs are going to be tough to come by because you have two guys throwing who are on, RBIs with two outs or key situations that kind of jump starts an offense and kind of gives you a little confidence.”
Chris Davis hit a solo homer in the seventh inning to extend the Rangers’ lead 4-2. During eighth inning, the Rangers led off with 5-2 when Ian Kinsler singled towards the centre field position. Wilson threw superbly as he permitted just two runs on six
hits including one earned run in nine inning pitches. There was no need of using the relievers as Wilson felt comfortable in throwing the pitches.
The Rangers’ Manager Ron Washington had a huge ovation for Wilson after watching the game closely. He said, “I've seen him throw better games, but we certainly needed him to throw his best tonight. He was very efficient. We need some big hits in some big
situations, especially with Pineda out there. that kid is something special. We rose to the occasion.”
The Mariners’ starter Michael Pineda permitted four runs on seven hits with four earned runs and nine strike-outs in seven inning pitches. Chris Ray gave away the last homer to the Rangers.
