-Section Question... please help...

I have a few questions... please help me... and star this question so I can get as many answers as possible...

I had a c-section with a spinal 2 weeks ago.... my incision has this pulling/tearing/burning/stinging (hard to describe) feeling everytime I move a certain way... Is this normal? The incision site looks great.. no sign of infection.... Is this feeling just a part of the healing process?

I have swelling really bad on my left leg and foot.... It has been 2 weeks since my c section and still have this swelling... makes my leg feel so heavy... the doctor keeps saying it is normal, but has anyone else experienced this... and how do you make it go away??

Thanks so much for your time.. your answer.... reading my question... and the start... Tiff

P.S.

I'd appreciate any other tips, stories, or info you can share about c section recovery... Thanks!!!

  1. IT'S COMPLETELY NORMAL..I HAD MY SON 5 1/2 MONTHS AGO AND STILL FEEL THOSE FEELINGS. PULLING ,TINGLEING,TIGHTNESS, NUMB FEELING..AS FOR THE SWELLING, YOU MAY NEED TO REST YOUR FEET FROM TIME TO TIME.. THE C-SECTION IS THE INCISION THAT KEEPS GIVING..LOL..YOU WILL DEFINATELY NEVER FORGET YOU HAD SURGERY THERE!

  2. I had a section 13 weeks ago with a spinal. my second one. I kno the feeling your talking aboutlike if u would try and lay on your side or something it feels as if its going to rip open? yea I think thats normal I had it with both mine. Im sure the swelling is probly still from the pregnancy or it could be from the spinal I had that also if Id sit in the chair to long both my legs would swell. It went away around the same time I started walking better. Lack of movement can cause the swelling also. Just put your feet up where its comfortable it should help a little.

It took me with my first about 3 weeks then I was out shopping but I was also on percocets LOL But I couldnt lay on my side or anything for a while. My second it took a bit longer to feel better Id say about 4 or 5 weeks to be able to walk at the grocery store and stuff like that.

I hope Ive helped you in some way :) Congrats on the baby

  3. The pulling/tearing/burning/stinging is normal.  I felt that every time I stood up, sat down, walked, rolled over....Every time I moved, I felt it.  As for the swelling, I don't think I had any.  Considering that it's only one leg I'd be really concerned that there was something wrong with that leg.  Does your hospital have a number you can call to ask a nurse for medical advice?  If not, I'd call anyone I could think of to ask if it's normal, maybe your baby's pediatrician or the maternity ward at the hospital.

  4. I had a section 2 weeks ago too and have recovered surprisingly well, I can feel it if I stretch - it pulls a bit and I still tae pain killers morning and night (Diclofenac and Paracetamol)

Like yours mine looks really well healed but sometimes stings a little.

I try and relax as much as possible - feed baby laying in my bed etc.

I am wearing high cut underwear - not very attractive but very comfortable, and stretchy cothes/ maternity wear that I can pull up over the wound, I find that helps too,

I shower twice a day, aiming the shower head at the wound site so that I don't have to rub it and you aren't supposed to use scented products on it in any case.

Also let the air get to it sometimes - half an hour or so a day lay down with it exposed.

I had swelling in both legs and feet but this had gone by day 5/6 - it may just be water retention so drink plenty and try to keep mobile but also rest with your feety elevated often (perhaps when feeding)

  5. I may not be of any help I had a c-section but I was dancing around the room Just 10 hours later And down the hall of the maternity ward and I felt wonderful!!  The nurses kept asking "Do you know that you just had major abdominal surgery? You should be taking it easy!" And I went to my 3 week checkup in the same pant that I wore for my first apiontment. I would get a second opinion If I were you. That sounds scary.

And I didn't like how the pain meds made me so sleepy so I stopped taking them as soon as I got home.

  6. I had a bit of pulling but wouldn't call it painfull but I never had any swelling... I would get a second opinion on that just in case... especially because of the risk of blood clots from the spinal etc.

The only other thing I recommend is making sure you really do rest for the first 6 weeks as much as possible. You may feel ok but you can really do yourself some damage if you make a sudden movement or try to lift something that is too heavy. Follow all the recommendation as to what you should limit yourself to in those first 6 weeks
