Question:

CA Drivers License... Name on it?

Hi there...

I am 16 and just got issued my Provisional Drivers License in CA a week ago. I still have not gotten the hard copy yet, but I have the interim license that they issued.

Nothing on it is misspelled, but I have a spacing issue. This isn't my name, but for example: on my permit, it said: "JOHN DE LA ROSA SMITH", which is how it should be correctly spaced On the interim license, though, it says "JOHN DELAROSA SMITH."

If that's not the way it's supposed to be spaced out, how do I go about changing that? Is this the way it's only showing up on the Interim, and will it be different on the REAL License mailed to me as it was on my Permit? After all... it WAS all through the same application from 6 months ago, and it should have been in their system. Is there a need to worry about it?

If I need to get it fixed, what should I do about it? Will I need to bring documents to DMV showing how its ACTUALLY spaced?

  1. I would wait until you get your 'hard copy' if you feel you need it changed. the DMV will always have it misprinted if you don't change it. You will need to go to your DMV with a birth certificate and file a statement of error. No big deal.

This is a common error in CA with spanish surnames.
