Question:

CA Push For Cricket To Be Included In The Olympics?

Following Ricky Pontings backing of 20/20 for the olympics, CA has taken up the call & says it could be just what cricket needs as it would get an amazing increase in audiences in the sub-continent where a great proportion of the world's population is situated.

What are your thoughts on the matter?

  1. OIM, that might work in cricket, but thank God they have no influence over the Olympic committee

JK, do I detect a note of sarcasm?

  2. Seriously, CA should talk with the BCCI and get the BCCI's backing. Otherwise it would not be possible. We all know that what the BCCI wants, they'll get!

  3. I love watch India play hockey in olynpics but cricket would be much better

  4. well I hope it gets rejected (my view).

CA is right, it COULD be just what cricket needs or it might not be. If cricket was to go to the olympics. What would be the format of winning the medals? Would it be similar to the T20 world cup, with winner taking home gold, runner up taking home silver, who would take home bronze? How would it all work?

I think we need to address the format before we ask to be in the Olympics. Cricket is an amazing sport, no dounts there but its the way we sell it that will help achieve an increase in population.

  5. better proposal~

  6. Why not? Purists like Bingalee would like it, because it would ensure that most T20 cricket was played under the banner of Olympics or Olympic qualifying, and would eliminate the need for extensive T20 series or world championships within the boring, Test crowd nations.

  7. CA knows that they can't compete BCCI directly in the politics of the game, so their intention is to play politics at global level with the motive of split in world cricket and also CA wants to do damage to IPL but it won't work because any business prospers on the strength of people backing it up and India will always be number 1.

  8. I think cricket would cheapen the Olympics.

That said, I'm keen to see T20 (and rugby 7s) in the commonwealth games. Cricket is a commonwealth game after all. It'll give us all a better indication of how it would work in the Olympics and put us in a better position to judge.

Also there's no risk of cheapening the Commonwealth Games, because nobody really take it seriously anyway. It's more of a social 'sports-meet' for all us former empire countries. There's plenty of commonwealth countries that don't play cricket, and we should try and get them into the game.

I'd wait till I see 3 Commonwealth Games with T20 (men AND WOMEN)  being a success in all three games, before I can think of T20 in the Olympics.
