CA Unemployment Insurance question?

Can I still collect UI just to help me catch up on bills? I start my new job at the end of May but I still would like to collect UI at least for the first month to help me cover some unpaid bills and debts. Is it possible or has anyone done or been to the same situation? Thanks....

No you cannot do that  and they will   find out

You can't collect unemployment and be employed at the same time.  If you don't tell the EDD you've got a job and you keep accepting unemployment checks, they'll find out eventually because your new employer will be reporting your income on their quarterly payroll reports. The EDD will eventually demand its money back from you. I don't know whether they charge penalties/interest as well, but it wouldn't surprise me.

No can do.  UI is not there just to help you cover your debts.
