CA appoints http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 tour – Cricket News Update
Troy Cooley, the former Australian First-Class pacer, has been called upon to work as an interim coach with the Aussies for their upcoming tour to South Africa, after the team’s head coach, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Timothy-John-Nielsen-c94043, resigned recently.
Though Cooley is happy with his new role, he does not want to apply for the post of chief coach.
Apart from coaching the Kangaroos, Cooley will have to act as national selector to pick up the ODI and T20I squads.
The 45-year-old has immense work experience with Team http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 as he had been their bowling coach, assistant coach and even head coach during the past decade. He is currently working as chief coach at Cricket Australia’s (CA) Centre of Excellence.
Commenting on his appointment as a caretaker, Cooley said, “I feel excited and comfortable coming into this 'caretakers role' knowing that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SR-Watson-c2558 and Tim Nielsen have been planning this South African campaign for a while now. My working
knowledge of the Australian team and our opposition will no doubt be an asset in the short term."
CA General Manager, Michael Brown, told, “Troy has filled this role successfully in the past, and has worked extensively with all players within the Australian set-up.”
CA is going to advertise the vacant post of head coach in this week and it is expected that many candidates will apply for the job which has turned to be highly significant after the last month overhaul.
The Argus review report, which was compiled and submitted by a former business tycoon, Don Argus, triggered overnight changes in the managerial and administrative ranks of CA, including dissolution of the selection panel, forced resignation of the coach
and termination of some of the key board members.
Some analysts opine that Cooley’s job will become somewhat easier as the Aussies are awash with form after winning the recently-concluded Test and ODI series over http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758.
The Tasmania-born played 33 First-Class and 3 List A games from 1985 to 1996, bagging 54 and 4 wickets respectively.
