CA chief shoots down rumours of sacking Ricky Ponting for good
The Chief Executive of Cricket Australia (CA), James Sutherland, has rebuffed rumours in Australian media that Ricky Ponting has worn the skipper’s cap for the last time in the Melbourne Test.
Sutherland made it clear that there was no way that CA had considered sacking Ponting from leading Australia after the fifth Test of the Ashes in Sydney. “There's no question of looking beyond the immediacy of this Test match...and (Ponting's) return ahead
of the World Cup, which we've obviously flagged as being incredibly important, which is why he's being wrapped in cotton wool from now."  Sutherland said.
CA decided to rest Ponting in the final match of the Ashes so that the veteran could undergo surgery on his broken finger. Ponting picked up the injury in the third Test at the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Western-Australia-c865 Cricket Association Ground (WACA) in Perth while trying to
take a catch. According to details a surgery has been deemed necessary for Ponting in order for him to recover from his injury before the 2011 World Cup.
The CA chief executive made it clear that he would want Ponting to lead the Australian team in the future, and there were definitely no plans to ditch the veteran after he failed to stop England from retaining the Ashes.
Ponting’s vice captain Michael Clarke will lead the side in his absence. This year hasn’t been good for Clarke either, but CA has still shown its trust in him. Clarke has also brushed aside suggestions that Ponting had worn his cricket gloves for the last
time. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120 clarified that he would never lead the national team in the presence of his mentor (Ponting).
Earlier last week Shane http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326 also expressed his full support for the veteran skipper by saying that no one in the team doubted Ponting’s abilities as a leader. The players believe that Ponting is going through a rough patch and will surely come out of
it. The Australian selection panel consisting of Andrew Hilditch, Greg Chappell, David Boon and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jamie-Cox-c66230, unanimously decided to put Michael Clarke in charge of the Australian squad for the Ashes finale.
