  1. That's not precisely correct.  The governor is not going to make the minimum wage 6.50.  The Governor is going to *lower* the wage of certain state workers *below* the CA minimum wage and pay them only $6.55 /hr even though the CAW minimum wage is $8 /hr.  How he's going to get away with this, I'm not sure, but that was what was on the news last night.

What's he's doing, or what he's threatening to do is to lower the wage of certain workers to the level of the Federal minimum wage unless the legislature passes his budget.

The State Controller, however, the person who signs the paychecks, is saying that he will not comply with the Governor's order if it's passed, so we'll have to see how that goes.  I'm also confident, especially since so many of the positions in state government are also Union positions, that there will be court battles which will eat up any planned savings if this happens as well.

  2. I have no clue where the $6.50 wage came from ..California's min. wage is $8.25.

But it's about time he took a stand and did something..something he had promised to do when he got elected..I am beginning to feel he is taking orders from his wife...a Kennedy.

As for the controller..he is an elected official..and as a democrat it's obvious what his goals are...he is supposedly going to run for gov. this time around.
