one atmosphere pressure which could be obtained by burning 240grams of graphite carbon. HINT: A dm^3 of CO2 gas has a mass of 1.81 grams of 25 degrees celcius and one atm pressure.

  1. C(s) + O2(g) ---> CO2(g)

    Carbon molar mass = 12g/mol

    240g / 12g/mol = 20mols

    Stoichiometry tells us CO2(g) has the same amount of mols so:

    Molar mass of CO2 = 44g/mol

    44g/mol X 20 mols = 880g

    since 1.81g takes up 1 dm^3:

    880g / 1.81g/dm^3 = 486dm^3
