  1. What the papers were saying is that Kyle Busch has enough points not that he is guaranteed a spot in the chase, and guaranteed to have the most bonus points going into the chase.   4 races remain, Carl only has 3 qualifying wins, so if he wins all the rest, then he'll have 7 and kyle 8.  Not in the mood for math right now, but with a decent finish, I'd think that Carl, Jimmie, and Jr should all be locked into the chase after this week.   Thats what kyle Busch meant when he said he isnt concerned with 2nd -43rd.   Only a win will help improve his position now.

  2. Going into the Chase starting at Louden Kyle will and does have the top spot clinched in the standing going into the chase. There are only 4 races left to get to the chase to get bonus points and Jimmie and Carl dont have enough wins or could win to pass him. When the chase starts Carl will not get the bonus points for his win in Vegas. But Kyle will start the chase in first place.

  3. two things to remember here: after richmond everyone in the top twelve gets their points set to 5000 PLUS 10 bonus points for each win accumulated during the first 26 races. thus, if the chase were to start today with the twelve who are there now (after 22 races) it SHOULD look like this:

    kyle busch 5080

    carl edwards 5040 ***

    jimmie johnson 5020

    kasey kahne 5020

    dale junior 5010

    jeff burton 5010

    denny hamlin 5010

    jeff gordon 5000

    tony stewart 5000

    greg biffle 5000

    kevin harvick 5000

    matt kenseth 5000

the second thing to remember has to do with the asterisks (***) above. carl edwards has won four races, but he was penalized in a few ways when his car failed to pass post-race inspection at las vegas earlier this year. besides the fines, suspensions, and both owner and driver points penalties, edwards was also hit with the penalty that he would NOT get the 10 bonus points for winning that race. thus, right now he has only 30 bonus points. if the chase started today, he would have a total of 5030.

now, with only four races left, even if carl won all four, he would have eight wins (there you are correct), but because of the las vegas penalty he would only receive 70 bonus points. and if either jimmie johnson or kasey kahne wins the next four races, they would have only six wins, giving them 60 bonus points. thus, since kyle's eight wins so far give him 80 bonus points once they are reset after richmond, he will be the top seed no matter what everybody else does the next four races.

as for the other statistics - poles, top-fives, top-tens, etc mean nothing in terms of "bonus points" for the chase. so any lead carl may have in top-tens is not only eclipsed by kyle having more top-fives, but also doesn't matter for either of them (or anyone else) once their points are reset for the chase. and even if it could happen, there is no pressing reason for a "tie-breaker" if two drivers go into the chase with the same amount of points - they are just ranked equally. looking at the above list, kyle would be seeded first; carl second; jimmie and casey tied for third; junior, burton, and hamlin tield for fifth, and the rest all tied for eighth.

there probably is some "tie-breaker" in place should qualifying at loudon be rained out. then nascar would have to decide whether to put jimmie third and kasey fourth or vice versa (and the same for the others), but i don't know what it is. top-fives maybe?

  4. Technically, he can't tie Kyle, due to the fact that he isn't going to be credited with that extra 10 points from when he got penalized at Vegas.

  5. there is still a lot of racing left in the season.... it would not bother me to see kyle win it all, but i believe it is was too early to be calling any one driver the champion yet....   personally i am with you and would love to see carl win it all... but that is just my opinion....   hehehe   i am praying and hoping god answers it.... lol...lol

    have a wonderful day....

  6. Since the rules aren't posted, this is my best guess. If Carl wins the next 4 races, he could tie Kyle in wins. Next is top fives. Kyle has 13 to Carl's 9. For Carl to tie Kyle in this, Kyle would have to finish outside the top-five for the next 4 races. That leaves us to top-10s. Kyle has 14 to Carl's 16. That is where Carl might be able to get the top seed. This is dependent on Kyle staying out of the top 5 for the next 4 good races and Carl winning all 4.

  7. After the next four or five races starts the chase so anyone within the top twelve could really win the cup.

  8. no you got it all wroung the seed is bassed on how many races you won it gives all the drivers in the top 12 a total of 5000 and then gives them 10 mroe fr each race and he cant catch up to kyle in wins cause of how he cheated in las vegas
