  1. I don't recommend it, if you haven't learned how than definitely not, and it would be a bad idea to try. Call the vet and let them do it

  2. Not unless you are a vet or an equine dentist. It takes special tools and training to float a horse's teeth.

  3. Technically, you might could, but the likely hood of you causing serious harm to yourself or your horse is high. Most vets and/or equine dentist sedate the horse before doing this procedure. Please call a professional!

    Good luck!

  4. absolutly not - would you let a friend do your teeth!

It's a specialised job and if you get it wrong you will cause your horse a lot of pain and make it hard for her to eat. It doesn't cost much to have it done and will make your horse more comfortable.

  5. What!?!?! hahahahahahahahahaha...............okay that would most deffenetly be a NO..call the equine dentist...if u dont know if u can do something of that magnititude or not then im shocked u even own a horse.

  6. Never attempt to float your horses teeth, trim their feet or do anything else which might affect their health.  Floating horses teeth requires a DVM (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine) and an RVT ( a Registered Veterinary Technician) The RVT is usually the assistant but the vet will usually ask if you can assist them with the dental work or if the RVT is required....If you float the teeth yourself you could end up causing major health problems for your horse....it would be like pulling another person's tooth if it hurt or fixing a cavity yourself....

  7. NO.

The risk of an untrained person causing serious harm to the horse is too high, not to mention the cost of the tools negates any money you might save by tryin g to be cheap and doing it yourself. In many states only a DVM can float teeth - that should tell you something!

  8. Nooooooooooooooooooo!!!  Don't do it yourself.  First off you probably don't have the tools nor the training.  Call a vet or a horse dentist.

  9. wow!

floating teeth is not a easy task

1st off do you have the proper tools, are they clean and sanitized?

sedation, having the horses mouth open at the right angle, then the filing, drilling, rinsing, reversing the tranquilizer

anything dealing with the face, mouth, teeth ears, eyes, I call the vet

yes, the vet should do It!!

  10. I agree with the above

  11. Absolutely not. Have you ever seen it done? Have a vet do it.

  12. ummm, no. only a vet that specializes in equine dentistry can float a horse's teeth.

unless you can do this, (which no one but an equine vet can do) don't try it!

you have to have the proper equipment and medication for the horse ect. don't try it!

  13. NO - you aren't a dentist are ya?  Would you fill your own cavities?  would you do dentistry on your sister or brother if you weren't a dentist?

Horse's teeth have to be floated to proper tolerances and proper angles - it takes someone who knows how to handle horses with the proper equipment to do it correctly.  One attempt by an uneducated person could do long-lasting damage to the horse.  Get a vet or horse dentist to do it for you.  If you can't afford it, you shouldn't have a horse as this is a part of basic horse care - save your pennies or work with a vet or dentist for a payment plan to do it right.

  14. I would not even attempt it. Floating a horses teeth is serious business. You could really mess a horse up by messing with their teeth the wrong way. I would reccommend having the vet do it. It may be more expensive but it will save you in the long run rather than attempting it yourself.

  15. best leave it to the people who know how to do it

think if its worth taking a chance and risking it to find out

not if you are or aren't capable

  16. Nope.

The vet will use a "gag" that keeps the mouth open so the horse does not bite the insturments or his arm - some horses need to be sedated.

Imagine needing a dentist and your neighbor tries to do it herself...
