  1. Sai were originally a farm instrument. Used to plant seeds more effectively. The pointed tip dropped into the ground and stopped by the two prongs on either side to create a cavity at the exact depth the seed needs to be planted. These un-sharpend weapons were used to break through the armour of the Samaria slave masters (if you will). If sharpened they would lose puncturing strength losing effectiveness.

    So why sharpen them?

  2. Dude, you are a moron if you do anything to those Sai.

They are not meant to have a sharp point.

    What a waste!

You really don't deserve to own such a magnificent piece of craftsmanship.

If you alter them, it will have an affect on their ability to release energy.

You have no idea how much I can't stand people like you.

  3. Sai are not supposed to be sharp. What would be the "point" if you'll excuse the pun.

  4. There is a reason why in competition they only allow unsharpend weapons.  I had a friend before that drop one of his Kamas and it landed point down and went trough his foot and stuck in the floor.  Luckily it missed major tendons and after going to the hospital and getting his wound treated he was out of competition for a few months.  I think you should ask yourself how often you drop one of your Sais and if sharpening it to a point is a good idea.

  5. no way to know for sure. With the 'sai' you get at a typical online retailer or dojo, then no. the steel will be too brittle to take a point or edge and you'll end us messing up your sai.

If your sai is mid to high carbon steel, then yes you can. Remember to oil it regularly to ensure it doesn't rust.

That said, pointing sais is a stupid idea. They are a silly weapon to begin with and you'll just end up hurting yourself or others.

  6. i think everyone would be safer if you didn't
