The first day my period was due i only spotted one time when i went to the restroom and haven't had any other bleeding.I am now 5 days into my cycle and wondering should i still take the clomid today like planned?

To give some back ground:

I do have irregular cycles

I've been getting my period every 41 to 51 days since april 08

The day i spotted would have been cycle day 51

Mild cramping 7 days before period was due no sore breast at all

Took 1 urine preg test at doc on Aug 29th and a home preg test on Sep 4th both neg

So once again should i go ahead and start the clomid today like planned?

  1. In theory, you do not necessarily have to have a period before starting clomiphene (Clomid). But in practice, there are several reasons why most doctors want you to have had a period before starting:

    1. To make sure you haven't ovulated recently.

    2. To make sure you are not pregnant.

    3. To make sure the lining of the uterus is at the right phase for egg implantation.

When no bleeding is induced, the endometrium (lining of the uterus) has been growing and been stimulated for 30 or more days by the time you are expected to ovulate and may not be as receptive to egg implantation. But if a menstrual period is being induced, then the endometrial lining will have about 14 days of growth and stimulation at the time of clomiphene-induced ovulation. When you get medications to induce bleeding it may start anywhere from 2 days to about 2 weeks after finishing the last pill of progestins or birth control pills.

  2. I would. I had that problem one month and I took a pregnancy test at the doctors and two at home and all were negative.  The doctor told me that I could go ahead and start the next cycle.  The prgnancy tests are pretty accurate.  Good luck.
