You don't need insurance.

You just can't get it registered until you will get insurance.

Sure, assuming you have it towed home, and are willing to take the chance that nothing will happen to it in those 6 months.  Remember, if someone steals it, and there is no insurance, you won't be compensated.  Likewise if the garage burns down and damages the car, it's not covered.

Please understand that you are basically self insuring the vehicle against any and all risk.  You are taking on this responsibility.  Also, you can't legally drive the vehicle on public streets.
