Hello all. I'm a high school senior and am deciding what to major in. Please do not tell me to explore my options by going in undecided and blah blahh. Anyways, i just want your suggestions, that's all. So, please just give me suggestions not any other advice. thanks. Anyways, I want to know a major that a) makes a good salary b) allows you to travel all over the world and help other people and the environment in some way and last but not least has a lot of job prospects in the future. Thanks. I was thinking about engineering, but alas I don't like higher class math, so please suggest other majors. thanks

  1. Actually, the math needed for engineering, or at least some areas of engineering, is not all that hard.  Remember that you will be able to use a computer, not have to work everything out on paper.

But engineering is itself a very broad topic.  Almost anything that interests you has engineering involved.  For example, you probably have some plastic consumer goods right there by your computer.  First, someone had to design it, perhaps even invent it as a whole new idea.  Then someone else had to work on what materials would be the best to make it out of.  Somene else had to figure out how to build the machines that would automate the process of making it cheap enough to be practical.  Yet another person had to design the packaging to protect it in shipping so it got safely to the retail store where you bought it, or through the mail or other shipping to you.

Then there's the chemical engineer who worked out how to make it exactly the color that was wanted, the plastic exactly the hardness, the amount of rigidity (and perhaps brittleness) versus the amount of flexibility (and perhaps vulnerability). The surface texture has to be just right for the way you will hold it and use it . . . and all that is just one simple little piece of consumer goods.

There are also people working at interesting jobs that most of us never think about.  The guy who designed the test equipment may not be very good at writing instructions on how to run it.  Some people are really good at organizing projects, and the people who work on them, so that the rest of us can do our part of the project and the materials we need are in our workshop when it's time to do our part. Creative people generally need someone who knows how to put their creativity to practical use, so they can have a living without having to do the things they are not good at.

The travel all over idea and the help people and the environment idea reminds me of the people who create things out of recycled materials, or who are part of the distibution chain for those things.  There are many, many great ideas that can be done as cottage industry or small workshop industries in poor villages, so long as they can have a market for what they make.  Being any part of bringing clean water, electricity, health care, education to a poor village should be very satisfying, and could also be quite profitable.

But you can make a good salary out of almost anything, if you love it enough to do it really, really well.  Not very many people can make a living as a free-lance writer.  But the dozen or two best writers make a very good living indeed.  Doll designers are almost always just hobbyists; but Robert Tonner must be a very wealthy man by now, because he is the top of his field.  You can even make a lot of money doing "free" stuff like Internet pages, because the advertising pays for it.

Look at what you love to do, who you envy for their interesting work, and how you would go about putting yourself into that picture.

  2. im only 11 and i really want to be a vet im not sure if you can travle but you can help peolpe

  3. Major in decision making.

  5. i you go to this link u can take a test to find out LiveCareer.com

  6. biology, go study exotic animals

  7. Since math is your main "obstacle" to overcome.

Take it first, even if you have to hire a tutor. Once you have that in your past. work on the other subjects that you will have

to take until you know, what it is, that you exactually want.

Don't you never, ever let math or science, stand in the way of your "goals."

Someone asked yesterday. I am competing for a job and the

other person has a Phd. What do I do?

If you can learn from other peoples mistakes.

    Learn from mine.

  8. Palentolgy, you go digging up bones :)

  9. philosophy

  10. The math thing may be a problem, but I was going to suggest becoming a Certified Industrial Hygienist.  They make very very good money, they are always in demand, there aren't enough of them and they travel.  Also, look into Forensic Science, you know like Crime Scene Investigation and that sort of thing, there are very, very few Forensic Scientists out there and they make KILLER MONEY.  I don't know how you feel about animals but you could become a Veternarian.  Whatever it is make sure that it is the thing that you really really like and that you will be able to do for the rest of your life.  You don't want to waste money and time going to college for something you will never use.  GOOD LUCK.

  11. good paying jobs that are high in demand are

    -nurses

    -computer software people

    -anything technology based

    -engineering

    -plumbers, electricians, construction workers

-food scienctists or something like with medicine

    -environmental scientists

depends on what subjects you like and what your good at based on grades and in general

  12. biologist, environmentalist

  13. Consider an art major. This could lead to photography which is sure to be a profession that makes you travel around the world to see everything, but that's only if you're an artsy person.

  14. Major in business.  Salary is good and can be very high once you get experience.  The math is cake compared to engineering.   Its also easy to get a job that requires a lot of travel.  A powerful position in business will allow you to help people and the environment in a big way becasue buisness people control the money which controls the desisions which affect people and the environment.

Be a business person that cares about something else besides money and you would really make a difference.

  15. hhghghghgh

  16. Anthropology? Environmental Science?

  17. Go where the money is and your heart! Do you like math, science? Biology? Economics? Humans will have to put a lot of money into new technologies and energy over the coming years. Bioscience is great. Geoengineering is mine-I love it. (have saved over 5 million dollars for my employers over the years)

    Have Fun-Do what you love
