  1. You might have insomnia.

  2. I am in the same boat as you as well as when i fall asleep I can't stay asleep and I am home with a 4 year old and a 1 year old all day. My advice to you if you don't want to take perscription drugs take some nyquil or tylenol pm to help you get to sleep. Also go see a therapist. Are you having trouble sleeping because of the constant thoughts running through your head? Also watch to see how much caffeine you maybe intaking after 5 pm every day. Those are some things that can help. Good luck!

  3. Is it because you're worried about something?  It doesn't have to be sleep related, it can be anything!  When I'm worried, I can't sleep.  I can't turn my brain off.  I've been having the same sort of trouble as you lately.  Worry (for me at least) always overrides sleep medicine anyway.  But if that's not your trouble, you can take over-the-counter "Simply Sleep" which is Tylenol PM minus the tylenol, or you could take "Unisom."  Try not to go to bed before you're good and tired (don't let yourself fall asleep on the couch watching TV either).  When I'm trying to fall asleep, sometimes I make myself focus on a song -- something like the ABC's, or I count back from 100 -- I do this so my mind doesn't just wonder, and usually I'm asleep before I reach the end of the song, and definitely before I've counted back to 1.

  4. I had this same problem when my daughter was about 3 months!!!  take melatonin!  I use half a tablet (you can buy it in target in the vitamin aisle) or they make a product called dreamerz-it is a piece of chocolate that you can eat at bedtime that has melatonin in it. http://www.dreamerz.com/

melatonin is a natural hormone that makes you sleepy.

once I took melatonin for a few nights, I was able to sleep much better on my own & now I only take it occasionally.

oh, and it doesnt make you all groggy when you wake up-in case your baby wakes up in the middle of the night for some reason, you will be able to get up to take care of her.

    good luck!
