CAR-15? Isn't that the M4 Carbine?

i just found out about this gun and it looks just like the M4 Carbine. Its made by Colt. So does that mean the M4 isn't made my COlt cuz im sure it is. Whats the difference about these to guns?? Also does anyone know if the M468 is made by Colt?

No, it was designed before the M-16.  The M-16 design came from it.

The CAR-15 is the "civilian" version of the M-4 carbine. The CAR-15 cannot go full auto. The M-4 can go full auto, but some versions are 3 round burst instead of full auto.

Before the it was designated as the M-4, it was known by the military as the GAU-5A (Government, Automatic Unit). I carried one for many years as a Security Policeman. Also, the GAU-5A had a larger muzzle brake on the end of the barrel which greatly suppressed the sound and muzzle flash. Unfortunately it was too large to accomidate the bayonet....but many who carried it considered the bayonet to be useless due to the short length of the barrel.

There are now NO LESS than 12 companies who are manufacturing their own version of the M-4 and other M-16 or AR-15 type assault rifles. Many feature the shortened buttstock or customized buttstock, customized pistol grips, removeable carrying handles or a scope railing, barrel lengths of several different sizes, with or without the front sights and in at least 6 different camo patterns and colors. There are also hardware kits to allow the rifle to hold night vision scopes, flashlights, and specialized slings.

the car-15 is essentialy an m4 but they arent the same thing...yes the m4 is made my colt they have an exclusive contract on the m4 through 2009.the m468 is made by barrett i believe and fires the incredible 6.8 SPC round, and the HK416 while a good weapon fires the 5.56 which is in desperate need of being phased out in favor of the 6.8 or the 6.5 grendel.

The CAR 15 is a term generally use to describe compact carbines so in a way they are very similar with minute physical differences. The colt commando and XM177 were predecessors to the m4.
