  1. Does that same key work in the  door locks  ?  You can try to gently smooth down the key cuts using a steel wheel like that found on a key cutter machine.  If you just do it enough to get the rough edges down, you won't hurt anything. Putting a  drop of oil or graphite on each side of the key before putting it in the ignition won't hurt anything either.  if that doesn't work, the the locksmith may be correct about the ignition.  Do you have a title for your car?  I hate to alarm you but stolen cars are started by "jimmying" the ignition.

  2. Take a fingernail file to the teeth on the keys. When keys are cut the edges can be jagged. If you file them down and make them smooth it should help. Dont take too much off or the key wont work. Just a little at a time.

  3. STOP Don't file your key! Put some EVOO or motor oil on your key and stick it in &out of the hole. The key hole is a little dry and just needs to be lubed some, dip the key and work it back and forth and in and out, It will work like new, and get better everyday.
