A recent report says several Carlton youngster's including Recent no 1 picks, have already been seriously influenced by Chris Judd.

His work ethic, professionalism and basic attitude to the game, has already had a major influence of the Blues young guns. In 1977 Collingwood with a new coach, rose from last to the Grand Final, played a draw then lost the replay . With all the positive influences at Carlton, are they good enough to equl or better the Magpies of '77. ?

  1. No chance in h**l buddy!

    Cutemum2 - you and your 'soft spots'...hehehe

  2. They are not underdogs, they are cheats, they put themselves into that position and somehow come out of smelling of roses. more should cheat and get caught and a couple of years later get the best player going around and the best youngster, remains to been seen, heard the same of Fraser at c'wood and if wasn't at c'wood he would be seen as just a player, the ol pies have a tendency to over rate their players as we all know. '77- Hafey, first person outside c'wood to coach them, they virtually had the same side as the previous season, funny that the only other times they have reached the big one, the coaches have been from 'outside' Mathews and Malthouse. Says something about the most over rated sporting team in the world. T he 2nd Carlton, WILL NOT make the finals!!!!!!

  3. Chris Judd is a class act, and should be captain of the Blues

  4. I would love to see somebody have such a great influence, however I think with the type of football that is played at the moment, it would be near impossible for this to happen.

Also, I really don't want to see carlton make the finals ever, and so my opinion is probably influenced by being a bombers supporter....

  5. Judd is all you read in the papers since he went to carlton they are welcome to have him, supposed to have come to Melbourne for a quieter life more like  to get out of the drug scene going on, he is so squeaky clean, wont be long a few players at carlton will whinge about his fovouratism.

  6. As much as Carlton may improve next year, I believe the Saints will be the ones to watch in 08'.

They have drafted well and got some very handy trades from other clubs.

As much as it pains me, I believe Melbourne wont go that well (another frustrating year ahead).

And Adelaide will not make the finals, lost to many and drafted poorly.

  7. Carlton will be big improvers in 2008 for several reasons the most obvious being the "Judd" influence. They have had a clear out with Kouta Whitnall Lappin retiring and a new coach on board so they will have a lot of new faces in the side this always raises work ethic and professionalism.

The return of Nick Stevens he was in great form last year before injury if he comes back to form they will have two class midfielders

Anyway to answer the question,  No but they will be big improvers and maybe scrape into the 8  I think in this professional era a dramatic rise like the 77 Magpies is unlikely ,

  8. I hope that Carlton finish about where they did this year. The only team I don't want to see above them is Collingwood.

Carlton are where they deserve to be - after being punished for their continued cheating of the salary cap.

  9. I think he will have a lot of influence on the young guys comming through.

They will be a better side this season, but they wont make the 8

It will be interesting to see how they go this season and the different tagging roles other teams use

  10. Influential people make good leaders.

I think Carlton can make a good go of winning the big occasion matches if their administration can keep their act together, with no "in" fighting.

Carlton carried a lot of high priced "had their day" injured "has beens" for years.

There is nothing like the top teams in the AFL playing the big occasion matches.  eg-Essendon V Carlton.

                                            Carlton V Collingwood.

Forget the interstate teams, they can't cut the mustard when it comes to packing out the MCG.

Well, back to Judd. If he is happy at Carlton, he will perform.Pratts money will prop him up, along with a few dinners at Raheen, Pratts humble abode.

  11. Yes, they can.

For those people saying they can't do it, in 2006 , Geelong finished in the bottom 4, yet this year , they were an absolute powerhouse.

Don't count anything out, for we know all the teams , that finished in the top 8 this year could finish in the bottom 8 the next.

  12. ha ha

i have watch every game the last 5years

on current form they will win about 7 next year

  13. nope one player cant possibly make a team in this day and age. thats my belief.

  14. i hate judd. he is just a money hungry b*****d. the only reason he went to carlton was money. he ignored the other big melbourne clubs to go to a team that lags near the bottom just for money. i wouldnt but it above carlton president d**k pratt to be paying him off under the table with extra money to avoid the salary cap. carlton have done it before and pratt has recent form with that visy cardboard court case.

and no i dont think any team can improve that fast, maybe carlton will play finals in 2 or 3 years.

  15. Deedubya,as much as id like to say they can, realistically in this day and age and with the injury list a big factor in who goes all the way id have to say i think they'll improve and maybe make the 8 but that will be about it-maybe in another year or two.

p.s to all the losers carrying on about salary cap breaches, they got caught, got penalised (nearly into bankruptcy) and have suffered on the bottom for the past 5 years-time to move on,plus they weren't the only ones(were they Melbourne,Essendon)and probably a few others.

  16. Good On Them!!!!

We will just have to wait and see.

    I hope they do well.

I have always had a soft spot for the underdogs.

It's Amazing how one person can change and influence people.
