I really want to go on the (canopy; aka; zip-lines) They offer packages online where they pick you up... I want to try this in Puerto Vallarta, Do they offer this in the boat? or is it better to buy outside? Cheapest way.

I also see that they last about 4-5 hours because they have restaurants, and some places where they offer entertainment. Has anyone ever tried this?

whats the best way to go? (Buying on the cruise or outside)

thanks a lot! everyone!!

  1. You can find the opinions of cruisers who have done that excursion by going to CruiseCritic.com, clicking on "Boards", then "Ports of Call".

We did a canopy tour independently in Dominica and it was the highlight of our cruise [actually of all the cruises we've taken!].  That excursion wasn't offered by the ship and we really wanted to do it, so I researched it on CC and on the company's website and we decided to go for it.  We were the only two people there and had a great time.

Such a tour would undoubtedly be cheaper directly through the vendor, if that's possible to do.  If the excursion is offered by the cruiseline, it may not be offered on a private basis.  Plus, you want some assurance that the vendor is reliable.  Posters on CC will be able to tell you about that.  If you're at all nervous, it's better to go through the cruiseline.

  2. I cruise alot and admit to always booking thru the ship, that way if youre running late the boat wont leave without you. Have you looked at the excursions Carnival lists online? I usually book mine before we leave home, that way they are paid for and I know where and what I'm doing. You can check out cruisecritic.com and they have boards that talk about excursions by location, you need to look under Mexican Riveria. I would love to zip line, it looks fantastic (I just saw an episode of Wives of Orange Country and they zipped in Puerto Vallarta)

I hope you have a great time, I'm actually going on that same ship Feb 24th . Have fun

  3. This website is cheaper,

    http://www.puertovallartatours.net/cruis...

(the zipline is called Canopy adventure or sometimes tour)

but booking through the ship is probably a better idea.  That way, the ship won't leave without you!  It would be better pay $20 more than to miss out on more than half of your few thousand dollars worth of vacation time.  Especially because you'll go to PV first!  You do NOT want to get left there!!!  But if you do, stay at the Westin.  I stayed there in October on vacation.  By the way, I also went on the Carnival Pride Mexican Riveria 7 Day cruise in March 2007.  (Same one)

I didn't get to try the zipline, but my friend went on Royal Caribbean in October (Mex. Riveria) and did the zipline in PV.  She said it was really fun but there were a lot of bugs.  It might be better in January though.  In October when I was there it was hot hot hot!

I'm 15 but I've been on six cruises and I have to say that the Carnival Pride was one of my favorites.  (and the other five were all Caribbean/Bahamas, too) Get the early dinner though to avoid possibly large amounts of Cabo Wabos (I don't know if they'll be on your cruise but the week I went there were hundreds of them because Sammy Hagar was performing the day we were in Cabo!)!!!!!!

Other things about the ship: eat in the dining room for lunch at least once.  The food is so good.  Also, try the Asain line (lunch).  I wonder if the cruise director will be the same... Jeff Bronson?  I didn't really like him and I got really sick of seeing him and hearing his annoying voice every single day.  Make sure you let them take lots of pictures of your group/family and buy some of them too!

  4. I would suggest booking a zipline through the cruise line.  The operators in Mexico are very unregulated.  If you go with the cruise line you are getting the one that they recommend for their passengers.  Don't go with an unknown just to save a few bucks - with something that can be dangerous it is not worth it.
