CAS to make the final decision on David Millar’s life ban
David Millar is the selector’s top priority to represent Great Britain at the coming Olympics.
However, the cyclist’s inclusion in the mega event is still not certain because of the doping allegations.
The final decision on his case is expected in April, which will decide the fate of the British rider.
The 35-year-old was tested positive for using EPO in 2004 and was banned from professional cycling for a period of two years.
The ban also prohibits him from participating in the Olympic Games for the rest of his life.
Millar started his professional crusade with Team Cofidis back in 1997 and spent a period of eight years with the side.
He represented Team Saunier Duval-Prodir for the 2006 and 2007 seasons and finally penned a deal with Team Slipstream-Chipotle in 2008.
David helped the American side with a number of victories by the end of 2011 season.
He holds as many as four Tour de France, five Vuelta a Espana and two Giro d’ Italia stage victories under his belt.
Millar also claimed the overall victories at the Three Days of De Panne 2010, the Danmark Rundt 2001 and Tour de Picardie 2003.
The British cyclist earned a gold medal during the 2010 commonwealth games in Delhi and finished second at the UCI World Championships in the same year.
He is definitely an ideal candidate to represent Great Britain in the coming Olympics which are scheduled in his home turf.
The cyclist deeply condemns doping and also believes that everyone should be given a second chance.
"People do make mistakes and I think they should be punished. But they should be forgiven and given the opportunity for a second chance. We are human beings".
"Why should sports men and women get punished harder than people in the normal world?” he questioned.
"I am quite happy looking forward to 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games. That will be a much more joyful experience than me going to the Olympics as a black sheep".
“I don't know if it would be a very joyful experience for me,” he concluded.
This will probably be the last Olympic appearance for Millar but whether or not, he is given an opportunity will be decided later in April 2012.
