  1. i work at a vet hospital. there might be something else going on that's causing the spraying, possibly a urinary tract infection. he might also just be stressing from the new family member invading his territory. however behavioral problems hardly ever present without a physical problem being there. i would have him evaluated by a vet. neutering is painless, done under anesthesia, and recovery time is relatively quick (1-3 days). hope this helps :-)

  2. Male cats don't go into heat. His hormones are just going to his head. He will stop eventually after you nueter him.

  3. Your brother probably brought home smells from other cats/animals.

    Don't know about cat diapers.

Never had any luck with the plug-ins.  Never saw any difference.

You won't even notice it's been done.  It's a very quick procedure for male cats and they "bounce back" pretty quickly.

Neutering might not stop the spraying.

Cats that start sometimes get into a habit.

You might have to do some re-training.  Use a loud noise when you see him "line up a shot".  The noise will make him to uncomfortable to spray.  Well, hopefully.

  4. no they put him out just like doing vas on a guy..he will be uncomfortable for a few days..but cat urine smelll is almost impossible to get out...git er dun!!

  5. Male cats reach sexual maturity at about 5 or 6 months of age. He could be spraying because he is experiencing pain urinating, or it could be the stress of your brother coming home. I think it could even be him marking his territory since a new male came into the house (even though it's not a male cat). Who knows why cats do anything. I don't think a diaper will work on a cat like it would on a dog. Cats are too high-strung and too into being clean. It would go crazy. The pheromone producers that you plug in are pretty expensive, and while some people swear by them, others say they have no effect whatsoever on their cats.

The earlier you get a cat fixed, the easier it is for him/her to get over the anesthesia and the trauma. However, neutering is THE simplest surgical procedure a vet can do, and the cat will be home the same day and probably playing within one to two more days. It's never too late, and the spraying will probably reduce or end altogether. Good luck.

  6. He should have been neutered as a kitten, then they are very unlikely to ever spray. He must not like your brother...is he spraying on his things? After he gets neutered it will take about a month for him to stop spraying. Also was there a cat at the place your brother was living before he came home? That could be a reason for sudden spraying. Neutering is not going to hurt him at all, it's not as drastic as what a female cat goes through.

  7. The cat won't be damaged getting him neutered.  Maybe he doesn't like your brother and that is why he is spraying everything.

  8. ask your dad he prolly knows...

  9. wont hurt cat.

  10. I worked for a vet when I was in high school and did see a cat neutered once.  The vet I worked for put the kitty to sleep and the actual neutering process lasted about 5 mins.  They just slit open his sacs, slip out the insides and sever them.  An antibiotic salve is put on the kitty for it to heal and its done.  I'm sure it hurts at any age, after all, its still surgery, but the vet said that cats heal fast and they don't even need stitches when being neutered.

  11. feliaway works for many people. It will hurt more than it would hurt a kitten, his recovery time will be longer, but the vet will give you pain medicine to give him to help with the pain. It is worthwhile.

  12. It will hurt your cat for a day or two, but after that he'll be fine. It's for the best.
