CAn anyone tell me how hard it is to rent a 1-2 bdr house in Sydney long-term?

I've stories of rent price going up for auction to highest bidder? Is it really this bad especially near the CBD?

yes there is a rental crisis on at the moment due to the number of people being forced to rent due having their houses repossed. You would be best heading further out of the City, more than 20kms, as you may have better luck. Try Domain for rentals.
