CB Brandon Harris’ place on Houston Texans roster becoming increasingly difficult – NFL news
Second-year cornerback, Brandon Harris, faces uncertainty about making to the 53-player roster of the Houston Texans before the start of the 2012 National Football League (NFL) regular season.
Texans’ defence progressed remarkably well from 30th position in 2010 to the overall 3rd position during the 2011 NFL season, led by the new defensive coordinator, Wade Phillips.
Yet Harris had very little contribution into the star performance by the team given Phillips had heavily relied upon Kareem Jackson and Johnathan Joseph.
Although Brandon did not complain that he was unhappy over the way he had been used by the team, he felt it hurt his game and career growth.
Defensive backs coach, Vance Joseph, while noting this said:
"That's not his fault. Because sometimes, when you draft guys and you just put 'em out there because you drafted 'em, that can hurt guys' growth."
The official added:
"We had guys last year who were playing well for us to win. So, I wasn't down on Harris for not being ready to play last year. And that's the thing about me. If a guy's ready to play, I'm gonna play him. If he's not ready, I'm not gonna play him."
Harris is seen working hard in the offseason training and workout practices. It looks the team is convinced of his work but it is no guarantee that the CB will find a place on the final roster.
A final perspective of his situation is expected to be clear after training camp, due to start this month, depending on how he performs in the training conditions.
If he is unable to win a call on the active roster it will be another unfortunate season for him as while his team achieves tremendous success the player struggles to find a place in the squad.
Phillips is leading the team’s defence again this season. No one knows his defensive scheme and whether the players like Harris can potentially fit in the overall strategy of the coach. The exit from the squad will certainly be disappointing for the player.
