CB Charles Woodson does not mind being shifted to safety by Green Bay Packers - NFL News
Green Bay Packers have a hole in their roster at safety with the release of Nick Collins but they already have a willing starter who is ready to shift positions if needed.
Veteran cornerback, Charles Woodson who has played his entire career at cornerback is prepared to move into the safety position if called upon by the Packers.
Speaking in a radio interview with WAUK-AM in Milwaukee, Woodson said that his move into safety depends on who will take over his position at cornerback though he does not mind playing.
“I think that it comes down to what the other guys are going to be able to do as far as the cornerback position is concerned,”
Adding further he said.
“If one of those guys can take over that role and make the plays that need to be made at corner ... with Nick Collins leaving, [and if] they need me to play safety, I’m not opposed to that.”
This will be the first time in 14 years playing in the National Football League (NFL) that the cornerback will play in a new position.
He is also one of the best players at his position in the NFL after being selected to appear at eight Pro-Bowl games during his career and has been named three times as a first-team All Pro.
Collins went on to emphasize that the Packers must be confident in the ability to deliver of the player who will take over the cornerback position with his move to make the shift happen.
“But I think that we have to make sure that cornerback position is going to be solidified and we’re comfortable with who is going to be out there at the corner.”
The Green Bay Packers in this year’s drafts brought in six defensive players to shore up their secondary which struggled to keep the opposition out last season.
Cornerback, Casey Hayward who was drafted this year may likely fill the spot in case Woodson is moved but it still remains to be seen whether he is ready to start for the franchise.
These decisions will have to be made by coach, Mike McCarthy during the preseason training camp and in the new 2012-13 season we might see which direction the Packers take for their defence.
