CB Lardarius Webb backs Baltimore Ravens' secondary to be the best in league – NFL News
Baltimore Ravens’ cornerback Lardarius Webb is working very hard with other secondary’s players at the team’s headquarters’ facility just before training camp to back his earlier laid claim that Ravens’ secondary is the best in the National
Football League (NFL) during the offseason phase.
Although no one has questioned Lardarius’ wisdom to rate the team’s strength at the position, he insists that presence of players like Bernard Pollard, Jimmy Smith and Corey Graham forms a formidable group no other team has in the league
at the moment.
He said:
“I meant what I said. I really do believe we have those guys with Jimmy (Smith) and Cary (Williams) on the outside and me on the inside. With those guys, it's really hard to believe we're not the best. I see their skills every day. With
Bernard (Pollard) and Ed Reed in the back, show me another group who is better."
The trio is present at the team’s facility working with Webb, while they are waiting veteran safety Ed Reed to show up, who is going to be available from training camp most probably.
Ravens are due to open training camp this week and the veteran has said he is going to be a part of the side this season. Yet some analysts see his absence from the initial part of the camp not a surprise.
Webb, on the other hand, has continued working with his defensive line teammates to show they are the best. Although their real test will take place during the regular season to start from September, the group has sounded up and ready
for the challenge.
Irrespective of who has the best secondary in the league, some commentators see Webb’s remarks no surprise to them given the Ravens have always relied on the strong defence. It has remained the key to a majority of their victories.
This year, however, the Ravens have looked at their need on the offence seriously, adding a fulltime quarterbacks coach, Jim Caldwell, for training and grooming their offence leader – quarterback, Joe Flacco.
