  1. 10-4 Good Buddy. Cellphone's no good late at night when you need a Smokey check for your northbound trip from a southbound driver. And it's amazing the conversations that you'll overhear.

  2. What, because of the increased cost of gasoline and diesel? I don't think so.

Unfortunately, I think that internet communications have taken the place of CB radio. With IMing and email, you can chat with people anywhere in the world, so long as you're not driving. And with internet/satellite radio, you can listen to pretty much anything too.

Maybe there is a small future in shortwave, though.

  3. Where have you been, have had one for 15 years and other than a few locals I know, most truck drivers use it for idle chatter between themselves only.

Back in the day, they gave smoky reports gas lines etc... but the gas lines are gone, and you have to talk like a trucker to get a bear report, and even then it's unreliable at times as I know in my area the police hide so good that it's hard to find.. and then those that do hide, are worried more about truck inspections than speeding.

The language and such is what will keep people away from cb as it's gone down hill in quality over the past 15 years I've been on for sure. Truckers used to use them with high power amps to contact home... cell phones have taken care of that job and there are some who don't even run them anymore.... or if they do, it's using gray market radios....

But if you are wondering, the name I go by on here is still my handle on cb and figured it fit even though I work on more than cars now:-)

  4. The Internet and cell phones kind of killed it off, except for truckers.
