CB Stanford Routt signs for Houston Texans to replace injured Brice McCain – NFL News
The Houston Texans have added another cornerback to the line to maintain the required depth at the position that has recently been affected because of a couple of injury scares.
Cornerback Stanford Routt has been signed off Kansas City Chiefs’ waiver. He was released by the Chiefs on November 05, after he played seven games for them. He will replace CB Brice McCain who has been placed on the injured reserve list designated for return.
McCain requires a surgery to repair his broken left foot and needs at least a couple of months for the recovery and return to action. If the Texans are able to play the Super Bowl, his comeback will be worth playing again this season. Otherwise, it appears
the season may well be over for him at this stage.
The Texans are affected since ousting of McCain. They are on a risk to further suffer given other CB Johnathan Joseph is uncertain. He has already been absent from last two games because of a hamstring injury, and it is unclear if he is going to return this
or next weekend.
With four games to go in the regular season, the Texans are not willing to risk lack of strength at any position in the squad, irrespective of the fact that they are already through to the playoffs. The team has expressed a strong desire and boasted readiness
to win remaining games of the season even though they will not affect their second-round standing.
Meanwhile, neither the team not the circles around veteran Routt have disclosed terms of his contract. This includes value and tenure. The eight-year veteran nevertheless will be playing for the Texans starting next game. Before joining the Chiefs, he has
played most of his pro career with the Oakland Raiders and has reasonable record in the league.
It is another conscious effort by the Texans who maintain almost a perfect record in American Football Conference (AFC) South. They are the first team to reach the playoffs in the league and have maintained first position on the league’s AP Pro32 standings
chart for consecutive weeks.
