I was recently hospitalized with serotonin syndrome, and wondering if the effexor messed up my thyroid.

  1. A CBC has nothing to do with thyroid testing--they're two separate things.  The complete blood count includes just white blood cells, hematoglobin and hematocrit, and platelets, with some other numbers that tell you something about the size and morphology of the RBCs and WBCs (if you do a "CBC with differential" you will also get information about the numbers of different types of WBCs).

To test for thyroid function, you typically test the serum for levels of T3, free T4, thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) and sometimes thyroglobulin.  But you can certainly request those tests at the same time that the CBC blood is drawn, so I don't know that they didn't do this.  However, I'm not aware of any connection between serotonin syndrome and the thyroid, though I do know that Effexor is contraindicated in people with liver, renal or thyroid dysfunction.  That's interesting--was this something that was suggested to you?
