CC Sabathia, Mark Teixeira help New York Yankees defeat Milwaukee Brewers 5-0 – MLB Update
Carsten Charles Sabathia fanned 13 strike-outs and Mark Teixeira launched his 300th home run, as the New York Yankees defeated the Milwaukee brewers 5-0 to earn their whitewash in the three-game interleague series, at Yankee Stadium on Thursday, June 30.
The 30-year-old left-hand starter crushed the opposition with his unplayable swinging fastballs that he kept pitching for just over seven innings. With his furious pitching, he sent thirteen batters to their camp without allowing any run, however he gave
six hits but all of these were just for base stealing. It was his fifth consecutive win and eleventh overall win 3.05 ERA in 18 starts.
After tossing 118 pitches, Sabathia received a huge applause from the spectators.
Yankees’ manager Joe Girardi commented on the moment and said, "I always think that's nice for a player to hear that. He's really appreciated here, not only by us, but by the fans. It's good for him to hear."
Robinson Cano led the game off with an RBI double in the bottom of the first inning and Mark Teixeira took it 3-none with his 300th career-home run before Francisco Cervelli finalised the lead to 4-0 with his RBI single in the bottom of the third inning.
The Yankees then made their fifth run in the eighth inning when Cervelli made another RBI single and cemented his club their 48th game of the season.
After Sabathia left the field completing his spell, Boone Logan and Luis Ayala took charge to overrule the Brewers’ struggling batting line-up. Both of them remained scoreless in their short spells.
Milwaukee was Sabathia’s previous club, for which he played for a season and it was this reason that his feelings were a little confused before the game.
Sabathia said, "I didn't expect to be nervous but I was. That was my team. I try to be laid back and not let that affect me, but it did."
The Brewers’ ace Randy wolf stumbled all afternoon and gave away four runs but he managed to complete his seven innings. Despite receiving early blows, he kept the Yankees to four-runs until the end of his seven innings and also took out three batters, however
lost his fifth game.
His manager Ron Roenicke was satisfied to see a comeback in the Wolf’s pitching and said, "His last three innings pitched, it's the best that I've seen him throw. It was just the first couple innings; the ball was sailing away on him."
Closer John Axford allowed one run in the eighth inning over his 22 pitches.
After winning their fifth straight win including two consecutive wins against the Colorado Rockies before this series, the Yankees now will now face the New York Mets for a three-game series, starting from July 1.
