CC Sabathia admits his elbow injury resulted in poor performances in 2012 – MLB News
New York Yankees’ left hander starting pitcher CC Sabathia worked out without feeling any pain in his left ankle, reports a leading sports website. In an interview, Sabathia admitted that his elbow injury may have contributed in his below season in 2012.
Right down to the final game of Yankees’ disappointing season, Sabathia insisted that he was perfectly fit and his elbow was not the reason why he underperformed. Yankees’ started the season on a very bright note occupying the top spot on the American League
East Division for most of part of the game. However, Joe Girardi and his men started to falter as soon as the post season started.
Despite winning the AL East title comprehensively, New York was unable to live up to the expectations in the post season. In the best of seven game American League Championship Series against the Detroit Tigers, the Yankees paid the ultimate price for their
errors.
“It was always there; it was pretty much consistent,” Sabathia said. “I had some good starts and bad starts. I can’t make an excuse either way of why I pitched good or bad. It just is what it is.”
“I definitely feel a relief, just having that range of motion back and not having that ache at the end of my extension,” Sabathia said. “I felt that right away, so hopefully I can just continue to get better and continue to feel less. After last year, going
through what I went through pretty much the whole second half, playing catch so far, it feels a lot better.”
Sabathia posted decent stats during the regular season and he created all sorts of problems for the Baltimore Orioles in the American League Divisional Series. The fans had great expectation from Sabathia but he gave up too many nuns in Game 4 of ALCS against
the Tigers.
Yankees’ Manager Girardi believes Sabathia is capable of making a strong come back in the season. His elbow has been cleaned out. According to sources, Sabathia is set to throw his first bullpen session on Friday. It will be interesting to see if he can
find his lost form to revive Yankees’ fortunes.
