CC Sabathia feeling healthy ahead of 2013 Spring Training – MLB News
New York Yankees’ ace C.C. Sabathia is one of the most feared pitchers in Major League Baseball. The southpaw has the ability to strikeout batters in pressure situations. It will not be wrong to say that he has helped the Yankees emerge victorious in numerous
nail biting encounter since joining the club.
However, Sabathia was far from his best in the past season. The big left hander struggled to perform consistently, which led to a painful end to the season. Right till the end of the season, Sabathia insisted that his elbow was not the reason why he was
underperforming.
Now having recovered from that left elbow injury, the starter was more willing to admit that the elbow injury may have played its part in his poor run. In an interview with a leading sports website, Sabathia said that he is working hard to get back into
prime form.
The left hander had a great time on the mound in 2012 American League Divisional Series against the Baltimore Orioles. His two starts against the Orioles included a complete game effort in the decisive Game 5. However, Sabathia was unable to live up to the
expectations in an anticipated in Game 4 of American League Championship Series against the Detroit Tigers.
“Just trying to make all my starts and make sure I stay healthy,” Sabathia said in an interview. “After having the season I had last year, being on the DL a couple times, getting a little older, I just want to concentrate on staying healthy. Any kind of
numbers I feel will be there if I’m healthy, so that’s the only thing I’m worried about.”
Allowing six runs over in just over three innings, Sabathia paid the ultimate price for his errors against a quality batting team. After Yankees season ended painfully, the management announced that Sabathia will undergo arthroscopic injury to remove a bone
spur form his left elbow. Manager Joe Girardi is still very optimistic and confident about the left hander and it will be interesting to see if the starting pitcher can shut his critics with consistent performances in 2013.
