CC Sabathia is Brian Cashman’s top priority – MLB News
To reach close and get out was a disappointing result for the New York Yankees, especially for the General Manager Brian Cashman, who had already dreamt of holding the World Series Trophy in his hands. However, the report that could leave a strong impression
over the Yankees’ pitching depth at the top could come from Carsten Charles Sabathia.
Sabathia has reportedly decided to use his opt out clause of his contract sometime in the next week as the Yankees’ GM Cashman does not want to have a shortened pitching rotation in the 2012 season.
On the second day of their professional scouting on Thursday, the Yankees did not make any unusual evaluation over Sabathia and sent a clear message in baseball circles about their will to have the burly left-hander back.
"No doubt, it'll be the No. 1 thing to deal with and talk about," Yankees’ general manager Brian Cashman said. "That's obviously going to be the most important thing. He's been great, I'm a huge fan. We've got some time on the clock -- but not much."
Although Cashman scouted on the Japanese pitcher Yu Darvish on Thursday and possible inclusion of the 25-year-old in the Yankees side had been reported, but Cashman still wants to see Sabathia back with the Bronx Bombers in 2012 season.
After the New York Yankees lost in American League Division Series, Sabathia had not shown any commitment to use his opt-out decision, saying that he had not considered the opt-out seriously yet. However, his use of opt-out words provided a clue to baseball
experts that Sabathia might have an option to use his clause sometime in the next week.
"Of course it's a decision," Sabathia said. "[The opt-out is] there, so like I said, we'll just see.”
He further added that he could not make it clear what will be the outcome of the whole matter. The Yankees are taking this issue seriously because of the great importance and influence Sabathia has on the team as a whole. His talent and fierce competitive
spirit has helped the Yankees become very successful over the past few years.
Sabathia was appointed in the New York Yankees before the start of 2009 season, after Cashman had agreed at $61-million seven-year deal. After three years, Cashman realised the fear of Sabathia about pitching in Yankee Stadium and he tried to tack the opt-out
clause.
The pitcher took his career-high 21 victories in 2009 and the Yankees were crowned the World Series title. He did not perform for less than 19 wins since joining the club. Overall he has a 59-23 record with a 3.18 ERA with the Yankees and he has also made
his permanent residence at the Alpine.
