CC Sabathia sparks as New York Yankees defeat Minnesota Twins
The New York Yankees successfully took on the Minnesota Twins, scoring a 4-3 victory.
This marked the 14th defeat for the Twins in 15 encounters that they have had against the Yankees, six of which included a one run defeat.
It obviously was a failure with the bat that let the Twins’ down, in which Carsten Charles Sabathia of the Yankees had a devastatingly important role.
Keiunta Denard Span, Tsuyoshi Nishioka and Joe Mauer of the Minnesota Twins fought hard but failed. Span struck out looking, Nishioka grounded out to shortstop while Mauer too, fell to shortstop.
It was Alex Rodriguez of the Yankees that delivered the first blow. He homered to the left where Mark Teixeria scored. That hit, in a way, proved profiting for the team since the Yankees capitalised on what Rodriguez had given them after Gardner flied out
to left field, Derek Jeter going to shortstop, and, Teixeira hit by a pitch, and Robinson Cano got struck out swinging.
In their first inning, the Yankees had 2 runs with one hit having no error, while the Twins could not manage to hit any, coupled with 1 error.
In the second inning, it was J Posada of the Yankees that homered to the right, which was consummated by N Swisher. Martin grounded into double play before Granderson got out at second and Jeter grounded out to first.
That effectively sealed the victory for the Yankees whose pitchers had taken it upon themselves to contain the Twins to a minimum. The Minnesota Twins once again failed to have even a single hit, while the Yankees successfully monopolised the game.
The third inning went scoreless as both teams had no hit, which was followed by the fourth inning where the Twins tried hard to make a comeback.
It was J Thome, who succeeded in doubling to deep centre, which was scored by J Morneau and D Young. The New York Yankees could only have one hit in the fourth inning, while the Twins had, in what seemed to be their comeback in the match, 2 runs with three
hits.
The fifth inning was not a harbinger of something good for the Yankees with their inability to have any hit when Derek Jeter struck out, and M Teixeira got out at second just when A Rodriguez was all set to double play.
It was T Nishioka that doubled to deep centre where A Casilla scored. Out of 2 hits, Minnesota scored one run in it.
However, that did not prove adequate enough at all, as the Yankees, had the likes of CC Sabathia in the team whose intimidating presence restricted the Twins to 3.
In matches to come, the combination of CC Sabathia and Philip Joseph Hughes will further strengthen the Yankees, which has already raised alarm bells for their rival teams.
