CC Sabathia’s 21st win guides the New York Yankees to the playoff berth (Pt. 3 Final)
Carsten Charles Sabathia has done exactly what his team required him to do. The New York Yankees triumphed in their second match against the Toronto Blue Jays. Beating their opponents in their home stadium meant the Yanks were now level in the series. There's
only one game left and the fixture is scheduled to be played on Wednesday.
The New York side has been on a quest to oust the Tampa Bay Rays’ who are pushing for the title. Unfortunately, last night’s game meant little as the club won alongside their opponents, who bested the Baltimore Orioles in their encounter. The difference
after the game has remained the same between the two sides. The Jays on the other hand, were playing on the field with a different mentality. This series also marks Cito Gaston’s last managerial outing in the Rogers Centre. With one final contest coming up
against the Minnesota Twins at Target Field, fans were looking on for the skipper who announced his retirement earlier in the week.
The New York Yankees have been 2 wins up in their last 7 games and that will be a cause for concern for manager Joe Girardi. The match on Tuesday was won courtesy of Sabathia who outpitched his counterpart rookie ace man Kyle Drabek. He restricted the blue
birds to just a run and attained the 21 wins margin, equalling Andy Pettitte’s accomplishment of 21 in 2003 and 1996. Alex Rodriguez shared a few words on the player when he said, “You can't say enough about C.C. I'm speechless when it comes to him. The minute
he put on the pinstripes he's been everything that we've expected and a lot more. He's been a dream for our franchise."
The Yankees also claimed the playoffs berth with the win. The team, according to Joe Girardi, needs to keep on working for the games and come up with an important World Series brace in the post season. Mark Teixeira was another man to comment on the situation:
"It's just a first step. No one in here is satisfied with this season. Everyone knows its World Series championship or bust."
With just one game left between the Blue Jays and the New York Yankees, it is important to note down the key players who will be hard to miss in the finale of the series.
New York Yankees
Derek Jeter: Jeter is a man who has been greatly underrated in the season. He has stacked 66 Runs Batted In (RBIs) and 10 runs so far and with his contract talks coming to a conclusion soon, many fans at home believe
the player can make up for his short comings in the post season. He has a batting average of 0.286 and on Tuesday, he scored thrice and batted in a run.
Javier Vazquez: This veteran Yankee pitcher has been performing quietly in the season. He has started in 25 games thus far and has averaged 5.07 on his runs concession per fixture. The ball thrower has won 10 and
lost 9 of his games. While Joe Girardi looks to sort out his pitchers for the post season, Vazquez comes as a tactical change.
Toronto Blue Jays
Brett Cecil: The 24-year-old left arm pitcher has made an impact on the Jays in the best possible manner. He will go into the game tomorrow with a 2 game winning streak and many fans will hope he
extends it to 3.The player has featured in 27 games and his Earning Runs Average of 4.20 will be a winning stance for the manager.
Travis Snider: This young, 22-year-old player has been exceptional thus far. He made an impact in the last two games and many Yankee fans will be looking out for his homers in the game on Wednesday. He’s hit 12
so far and his batting average is up to 0.255.
