CD/DVD drive won't read CDs properly....

(I hope im in the appropriate section in posting this)

My CD/DVD drive won't read CDs properly because:

1. SOMETIMES, when i insert a CD with a content, it reads it as a BLANK CD. I tried it with other CDs and it's the same.

2. SOMETIMES, it can never read them.

3. and lastly, SOMETIMES it reads them properly.

*My drive is: ASUS DRW-1814BL.

- it can read both cd and dvd and can also write on them both.

*Type: DVD +/-R or RW DL Recorder

*Firmware version: 1.14

*I use Nero 8 as a burning software.

I hope someone could help me in fixing this problem, been searching in Google but most people would recommend updating firmware but i've already done this. Some would also recommend in buying another one....I can't buy now because my parents won't. We just bought this about 8 months ago.
