CD/DVD terms?

I know that RIP is to copy a song or even a movie from optical disk to your hard drive and that BURN is the reverse. To copy for example a WAV file from hard drive to optical disk.

How is this different from plain ol' copy? Like copy a file from your HD to your optical disk or vice versa?

  1. OK, to COPY a movie file to a cd is to create a backup of that file on a CD. If you put the CD into another computer, you can just take the file back off and copy it onto the other computer.

To BURN a movie is to make it into a DVD format. If you have ever put a DVD into your computer and just opened it (not played) you will see many different files types. That's what happens when you burn.

It's the same with songs. Just compying them makes a backup which is easy to transfer, whereas burning them will make it into an Audio CD, which is playable on all CD players.

    Hope that helps.
