CD Nacional edge past FC Pacos de http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ferreira-c13712 in ongoing Portuguese Liga ZON Sagres
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/CD-Nacional-c38752 edged past Rui Vitoria’s FC Pacos de Ferreira 1-0 to register their ninth win in the ongoing Portuguese Liga ZON Sagres at the Estadio da Madeira on Monday.
The solitary goal of the match came from the Nacional striker Jose Andrade http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Costa-c9458.
Nacional went in with a 4-4-2 formation. De Lima Barcelos Diego and Mateus started upfront for the home side while Rafael Bracalli started in goal.
The visitors on the other hand went in with a 4-3-3 formation. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Manuel-c23383 Jose, Mario Rondon and Pizzi formed a partnership upfront while Albuquerque dos Anjos Cassio guarded the visitors net.
The match got underway and both teams lacked urgency in the middle. With both teams in contention for a UEFA Cup qualification spot, the home fans were present in large numbers.
Most of the game was played in the midfield as both teams showed some good control over the ball. There were a few chances for both teams but neither side was able to convert them as the game continued at a snail’s pace.
Both goalkeepers just stood there and watched the game as the forward line did not test them much and the first half ended goalless.
The second half saw the introduction of Edgar Costa and the Portuguese brought some spark in Nacional’s rank through his pace. The striker tried to create a couple of openings within a few minutes of his arrival but the Os Castores defence stood firm.
Both teams were entirely focused on protecting their goal and the element of excitement was already snatched away from the game. The visiting team in particular played the defensive game and had only themselves to blame when the second half substitute Edgar
Costa found the back of the net in the 84th minute.
There was one moment of controversy that came in the 89th minute when the Os Alvinegros midfielder Bruno Amaro was sent off leaving the home team down to ten men. The visitors were not able to take advantage of that as the match ended 1-0 in Nacional’s
favour.
With this win Nacional move up to sixth in the table and level on points with fifth placed Guimaraes. With just five games remaining in the season, Os Alvinegros could still claim a UEFA Cup qualification place.
Pacos Ferreira are seventh in the table with 33 points and are also in contention for a UEFA Cup qualification spot.
CD Nacional will travel away to take on CS Maritimo on Friday, 8 April, 2011 while FC Pacos de Ferreira will host http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rio-Ave-FC-c40366 on Sunday, 10 April.
