When I put any disk into my CD drive, nothing happens. When I check the drive in "My Computer", the CD that I put in doesn't even show up. Is there anything I can do other than replace the drive?

  1. If it was working before and you don't know what happened, try restarting the computer.  If you've restarted and still can't see it, try to do a system restore.  Start - All Programs - Accesories - System Tools - System Restore.  Follow the wizard by clicking next, make sure you click on a bold date on the calendar prior to today, basically, whenever you were last able to use the drive normally.  You will be asked to restart your computer, once you've restarted, it should work with no problems.

If you still have problems, right click on my computer, then go to properties.  Click on the hardware tab, then click the device manager button.  Look for Disk Drives, click on the plus sign.  This will show your installed drives, and if there are any conflicts or problems, they will be indicated by a Red X or yellow caution sign.  The Red X means that the adapter is disabled, you can just right click and enable.  The yellow caution sign means the drivers are not detected.  If this is the case, you will need to try and go to the manufacturer's website and download the drivers because you can't load them from the recovery disk.
