Question:

CD Rom Drive issues....?

by  |  earlier

my girlfriend just tried to burn a cd and there are a couple issues:

1) the cd rom drive dosent even spin a cd, blank or media filled, it just dosent read it at all.

2)hence, she said she got an error msg saying no burner on drive. but there is.

so the cd rom drive is completely not being noticed. i thought it may be a driver issue? but i cant even find a driver to download.

any possible solutions? (i dont think the cd rom drive is bad...)

  1. Open the case and check the following:

    1) Power cable is seated properly

    2) IDE (or SATA) cable is seated properly at all connection points

If that doesn't work, you might need to check the jumper settings on the back of the CD-ROM if you have multiple IDE devices on the same cable.  Example; 2 cd-roms on the same cable or 1 cd-rom and a hard drive.

If a hard drive is present, make sure that is set to Master/Primary and you can set the cd-rom to either Cable Select (CS) or Slave/Secondary.

If it is 2 cd-roms, then pick one to be Master/Primary and set the other one to CS or Slave/Secondary.

  2. check power cable + sata or ide cable
