CDL class A license?

Question

My friend has a CDL class B license, that means he is able to drive a striaght truck with air brake endorsement. My question is, if he went to obtain his Class A license, will he need to take the road test again or just the written? I tried to look on DMV site but couldnt find the exact answer i was looking for, any help will be appreciated.

he will have to do both because the class a requires a combination transportation of the truck and trailer and they need to test the ability of parking and backing up and his knowledge on the combination part in the written there will be some tests he doesn't need because they have already tested him on the parts he past they have the test broken in to parts

When upgrading from a straight truck license to a tractor trailer license, you need to do new written tests, and you must do a new road test on a tractor trailer.  You are also subjected to stricter medical requirements to drive a tractor trailer.

The medical restrictions are exactly the same for a combination vehicle as is a straight truck.

Your friend will need to do everything again:

Take a written test for combination vehicles.

Do a pre-trip inspection on a combination vehicle

Do a "parking lot-cone"  skills test and then a road test in a combination vehicle.

The only thing he will not have to retake is his air brake endorsement, but he will have to hit the air brake points on his pre-trip.

he will need to take the road test and written again My friend went a few months ago. tell your friend for the road test he will need a truck that is for class A drivers and he will need to make sure that everything is working perfectly before the road test most important are the air lines.After the written he will get a permit and he can go back for the road test to get his A.
