  1. CDL Class C is a "California Driver's License: Class C."  It is a valid California license.  As long as your primary residence is in California you are covered even if you cross state lines.  It incorporates your regular Class C license, so you will only have a single Class B license that is valid for both C and B vehicles.

How much you make depends on what kind of job you get.  Class B licenses are pretty limiting tho.  Firetrucks and other emergency vehicles, oversize passenger vans, small delivery trucks, and cement trucks are about all the Class B license covers.  Most of the positions also require additional endorsements.

You'll have to take the Class C written test, Class B written test, plus the written test for each endorsement you need/want.  Then you'll of course need access to an appropriate vehicle for practicing and taking your driving test.  You can check with the DMV to find out about fees associated with the various tests.  As far as having access to a truck, people generally obtain a Class B (or Class A) license through a new employer that provides on-the-job training because you need access to the proper equipment in order to pass the road test.

Also be aware that once you have a commercial grade license the fines automatically double any time you get a ticket and points stay on your record for twice as long.  That alone is enough for me to caution you that unless you have a job that requires a commercial license there's no good argument for getting it "just in case."  You're better off being open to obtaining one if/when you happen to offered a position that would require it.

  2. the wages depend on where you are working and what you are doing a class B cdl allows you to drive a straight truck over 26001 pounds and tow a trailer less then 10000 pounds where as a class A Cdl allows you drive a truck that is over 26001 pounds and pull a trailer heavier than 10000 pounds and the rules are alot stricter for cdl drivers I pay around 120 dollers every 4 years for my class A license in pa and cdl drivers that have hazmat endorsements need to have a back round check for the homeland security and most companies do not pay for license renewels

  3. I believe a class "B" license covers trucks under 27000 lbs, single axle, without air brakes, and no trailer.

As far as how much you can earn ? That will depend upon where you live , whether or not there are unions involved, and what you are hauling.

A class "A" license will get you considerably more money , since it will allow you to drive tractor trailers up to 80,000 lbs.
