CEO and President Nolan Ryan pleased with Texas Rangers’ performance in 2011
With the Texas Rangers going to the American League Championship Series, CEO and President Nolan Ryan took the opportunity to talk to the reporters at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.
The former Texas pitcher and Hall of Famer expressed his satisfaction in seeing the Rangers do well in this year. With the absence of Cliff Lee from the pitching rotation, many doubted the club’s potential to move on.
However the fans got their money’s worth as Derek Holland and Matt Harrison are on the top of the stage to take Lee’s place in the line-up. While Tommy Hunter was traded over to the Baltimore Orioles, the club brought stability to the bull-pen with Koji
Uehara. Furthermore, the acquisition of Mike Napoli and Adrian Beltre has also helped the team a lot.
"I think this team is a more balanced ballclub than it was last year," Ryan said. "I also think it reflects on the balance of the ballclub when you're not able to retain the services of a Cliff Lee, but you're able to come back and get into the postseason
and do what we were able to do this season."
The club lost the 2010 World Series to the San Francisco Giants but now they have a chance to go there again when they beat the Detroit Tigers to retain their American League Championship crown. The club has done well so far in the season. With the top batting
average in the league, the Rangers have done well without former hitting Coach Clint Hurdle.
Ryan discussed the fact that the Rangers are trying to build their system within their organisation and that their primary focus is to develop players to perform.
The CEO concluded by saying that what the team does on the development realm will ultimately affect what it does on the Major League circuit.
The Rangers are top of their game and while the pitchers and the hitters are doing their best, manager Ron Washington is fine-tuning the line-ups and positions to bring the best out of the stars.
